The Sydney Swans have picked up Richmond player Mitch Morton in exchange for draft selection 79.
The 24-year-old played nine games for the Tigers in 2011, to take his career tally to 71.
He was Richmond’s leading goalkicker in 2009, but has also spent time further up the field on the wing.
Sydney Swans coach John Longmire said the trade with Richmond was very reasonable and he believed Morton had real talent.
“Mitch kicked 41 goals for the Tigers a couple of seasons ago and was their leading goalkicker that year. He’s highly talented and still only 24 years old,’’ Longmire said.
“For pick 79, we believe it was a reasonable deal.
“We think Mitch can play forward and also go through the midfield at times. He’ll add depth to our side and give us more firepower,’’ Longmire said.
Morton, originally from Western Australia, was picked up by the West Coast Eagles as a father-son selection in the 2004 draft (pick 44), and was traded to Richmond in 2007 for pick 35.
He is 186cm and 81 kilograms.
On Saturday the Swans picked up Adelaide running defender Tony Armstrong and two draft picks (35 and a late selection to be determined), in exchange for Lewis Johnston.
