OVER the past month, Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has speculated about the impact young speed demon Gary Rohan may have if he could overcome his injuries and get back into the side.

Rohan did finally make it back into the senior team three weeks ago after missing 15 games with knee and hamstring injuries, and he is having one heck of an impact.

Used as a substitute against St Kilda three weeks ago, Rohan entered the game in the final quarter and played a key role in helping the Swans to a crucial 15-point win.

With some game time under his belt, he spent 70 per cent of the match against Geelong on the ground and kicked two goals in the upset victory over the Cats.

And the 20-year-old, who was pick No.6 in the 2009 NAB AFL Draft, took another giant leap forward against the Brisbane Lions on Saturday.

He had 16 disposals, took five marks and kicked three goals, including an audacious snap from the boundary line in the second term that brought the crowd to its feet.

"It's great to see Gary Rohan back in the team," Longmire said.

"He gives us some real life in that [forward] area.

"He started a bit quiet, but then he got going and played really well, especially after half-time.

"He's been out most of the year and we always hoped he would come back and make an impact.

"We wanted him in the team, we know he's a good player.

"For him to come back into the team after missing so much footy and have an impact, he was good last week and again tonight.

"Not only is he lightning quick, he's a good mark and he's really hard and he loves tackling.

"Obviously as a coach you love those types of players."

Rohan felt pretty rusty when he came back into the senior side, but believes he is now hitting his stride at the right time of the season.

"It took me a while to get back into it and get a couple of touches," he said.

"Tonight my first half was pretty quiet, but after half-time I got a bit of a spark up and kicked some goals, so it was pretty good.

"I use my pace a fair bit."

Rohan missed the Swans' finals series last season and is excited about their elimination final against St Kilda next Saturday.

"There's a very good feeling around here," he said.

"I was an emergency last year for the first final against Carlton, so hopefully I can be in the side next week.

"Against the Saints, whether it's up here or down there, we'll be ready to go."
