Goodes itching to go
A one-game suspension has Adam Goodes champing at the bit for Friday's NAB Cup clash with Essendon
ESSENDON should expect to meet a vocal, fired up Adam Goodes on Friday night when the Sydney Swans' co-captain returns from a one-game suspension.
Goodes missed last week's win over North Melbourne after being sidelined for a rough conduct charge, when he slid boots first into a tackle on Geelong's Taylor Hunt.
Always one of the most noisy, vocal players on the field, Goodes found it extremely difficult watching the Kangaroos match and may well take his frustration out on the Bombers.
"I didn't know what to do with myself, to be honest," Goodes said.
"I was in the rooms and the boys ran out and I found it really hard to know what to do.
"I haven't watched a game of footy for a very long time and I even found myself barking orders from the side of the ground to players running on and off the bench.
"Hopefully I can just do that from on the ground this week and that doesn't happen ever again.
"I've only played the one [pre-season] game. I'm itching to get out there on Friday night against the Bombers."
Goodes was also asked about the suspension, when he slid into Hunt in the type of tackle that is frowned upon in soccer and can lead to yellow or red cards.
The dual Brownlow medallist admits even he doesn't know what he was thinking with the attempted tackle.
"It was a new rule that's come up this pre-season and I don't think I've ever done it before in my career," he said.
"It was just one of those instances that knowing now, when the ball is on the ground in that situation and I'm going to be second to the ball, I have to run in and make the tackle, not slide into the contest.
"When I looked at the footage I really don't understand what I was trying to do anyway.
"Hopefully it's one of those rare instances that doesn't happen again."
The Swans have had an impressive pre-season to date and Goodes is hoping they can keep up the momentum against Essendon, when they will be boosted by some handy inclusions.
"Myself, Shawy (Rhyce Shaw) and Sam Reid are some notable inclusions that didn't play last week," he said.
"What we want to see is just a four-quarter effort.
"We played really well for three-and-a-half quarters on the weekend and North Melbourne kicked the last four goals and probably made the scoreboard a little bit better than what it should've been.
"With two games to go we really need to get that momentum and form up and going and it's something we can definitely kick off this Friday night."
