The Sydney Swans reserves will take on the UWS Giants in the first round of the 2013 NEAFL season.

The reserves will take on UWS in a curtain raiser ahead of the Swans seniors’ season opener against GWS at ANZ Stadium on Saturday March 30. The reserves will again opening proceedings the following week at the SCG against the Gold Coast Suns reserves side, before the unfurling of the 2012 premiership flag and the Swans and Suns seniors match.

In total, the reserves will play 10 curtain raisers this season, culminating with a final round clash with Sydney Uni at the SCG ahead of the Swans round 21 match-up with St Kilda.

The NEAFL fixture, which was released today, also revealed that the Swans reserves players will make two non-traditional road trips in three weeks, when they play NT Thunder in Alice Springs in round 14 before travelling to Newcastle in round 16 to take on Eastlake.

The Swans reserves will take on AFL-aligned clubs 10 times this season, including four matches against the UWS Giants and three against both the reserves sides of the Gold Coast Suns and Brisbane Lions. The team will also have four byes during the season, in rounds 1, 6, 13 and 19.

The Swans reserves will have to wait until round nine to host Eastern Conference premiers Queanbeyan in a Grand Final rematch.
