MATT Spangher could not hide his excitement at being thrown a lifeline by the Swans.

The former West Coast Eagle was nervous during the Draft, worried his career may be over.

So when the Swans called his name he was rapt to know he'd be getting another chance.

"My manager had spoken to the Swans so I was a little bit hopeful but still pretty nervous," Spangher said.

"I can't wait to get up there as soon as I can. Sydney have such a good record at giving second opportunities to players so I hope I can be half as good as some of them."

One of the first calls he received after the Draft was from Mark Seaby, his former West Coast team mate who was traded to the Swans last year.

"It has been a great move for him and he told me he loves being at the club so much," Spangher said.

"I felt a bit starved of opportunities at West Coast. That was no-one's fault, it was just where the team was going. So I'm just looking for a fair go, that's all I can ask for."

Spangher was drafted in 2005 and made his debut against the Swans, in round four, 2008
