AMON Buchanan was among Sydney's best in the 2005 and 2006 grand finals against West Coast but it's no surprise which encounter he recalls more fondly.

"The grand final where we won (by four points) stands out for me," the 2005 premiership player said.

Six of the past seven meetings between the two great rivals have been decided by less than a goal.

"Every game that we play against West Coast, for some reason it's just a really tight, contested brand of footy, sometimes low-scoring and really fierce battle," the wingman said.

"Every game is part of the great rivalry now that we have grown over the last four or five years."

Buchanan, a former Geelong Falcons under-18 player from the Victorian town of Colac, admits he has one eye on next week's trip to Geelong to play the defending premiers.

But he says the 13th-placed Eagles will be no pushovers on Saturday night at ANZ Stadium despite the loss of 2006 Norm Smith Medallist Andrew Embley (illness) and injured duo Matt Priddis and David Wirrpanda.

"History has shown that it is always going to be a really fierce contest when you play West Coast," the 25-year-old said.

"It's really exciting for the boys at the moment.

"Another win here would give us three in a row and then we've got Geelong next week which is going to be a really tough contest.

"It's important to get a good roll on and build confidence and keep going."
