The Sydney Swans selected Matthew Dick with pick number 64 in the 2012 AFL Draft
Date of birth: 3/11/93
Height: 188cm
Weight: 86kg
Position: Defender
Club: Calder Cannons
Extremely quick and team orientated defender who uses the ball well by foot. Tackles strongly and can play on taller and smaller opponents. Breaks the lines with his pace and can play midfield. Member of the Vic Metro team that won the 2012 NAB AFL Under-18 Championships playing in four matches.
Dick enhanced his credentials at the AFL Draft Combine with a blistering 2.88sec time for the 20m sprint, and topping the clean hands test, dropping just one point for a Combine-record 29.
"Matty Dick is a little bit similar to Harrison, he played a lot of soccer as a junior, but he has also played a lot of football. For Vic Metro this year in the last couple of rounds he was asked to play fullback, which isn’t really his cup of tea because he’s a quick player, who kicks the ball with plenty of penetration, he’s strong through the core, so we’re excited about Matty," Sydney Swans Recruiting and List Strategy Manager, Kinnear Beatson.
