A seven goal to four final quarter against Ainslie in Canberra on Sunday has given the Swans Reserves their second loss for the season. The Swans led at every change but were overrun in the last term.
The win was a good result for Ainslie and the AFL Canberra Competition ,and was a result of both an improved Ainslie and the new rules imposed on the Swans relating to the amount of players they can field.
Peter Everitt successfully returned, rucking well and showing his high level skill in the 50 minutes of football he played.
Ben Mathews was the best for the Swans playing onball and at halfback, while Jesse White played well at centre halfback and in the ruck for the second half once Everitt had played his part and Daniel Currie left the field with an injured ankle.
First-year player Patrick Veszpremi led the goal kicking with five goals and Ryan Brabazon, Matthew Laidlaw and Alex Thorman, a top-up player, were also named in the Swans best.
The Swans finished the first quarter leading by six points after goals from Veszpremi, Laidlaw, Matthew O’Dwyer and Matthew Beckmans and by half time they had extended their lead to 22 points. Veszpremi kicked two of his goals in the second term and White and Foden also goaled.
Ainslie won the third quarter, pegging the margin back to 17 points, kicking four goals to the Swans three. Veszpremi once again goaled twice and Brabazon kicked his first.
In the final quarter Daniel O’Keefe, White, Laidlaw and Foden scored but Ainslie’s seven goal final term made them eventual two point winners.
