On Sunday it was the 40th running of the City to Surf in Sydney.  I was lucky enough this year to watch and witness this from my front balcony.  80,000 people ran (or stumbled) past and it was very interesting to see all the different types of people who take up this challenge.  The start of the race is at Hyde Park and ends at the famous Bondi Beach which is 14 km in total.

I was watching the telecast on channel 10 so I could keep track of the progress and how far away they were.  I was amazed at the speed the leading group of runners were traveling at.  By the time I saw them going past, it was well and truly in the latter stages of the event and they looked still fresh.  Ed Barlow ran an exceptional 3km time trial of 9 minutes and 28 seconds back in January when we were in our pre-season phase.  I worked out that if Cheese (Ed) kept at that pace for the 14km he would be almost 2 and ½ minutes behind the leader.  Ben St Lawrence won the race in a time of 41.05 minutes.  This is quite extroadinary seeing how great an athlete Ed is!!  I now have a lot of respect for how hard these athletes must train.

The race was not all about running Personal Best’s and putting a good time on the board.  There were many people who took the light hearted approach and decide to dress up in fancy dress which made for a good laugh.  One guy was dressed as Goldie Locks.  It actually looked a lot like Kristin Thornton and I embarrassed myself by yelling out ‘nice look Crickets’ (Kristens nickname).  I soon realised this guy had funny jokes so it couldn’t possibly be him, quite embarrassing!!

I want to run the City to Surf one year.  I have never ran that distance before so it would be interesting to see what time I would post and how I would handle the torturous ‘heartbreak hill’.
