The Other Half - part 24
Hayley found that one person's trash is often another person's treasures, and spent the weekend in recycled bliss!
For this blog's sake let us agree that the use of the word ‘trash’ means unwanted goods rather than a used tissue or chip packet. Okay? In the words of Dora, 'excellente'.
Our twin girls started pre-school this year and as a fundraiser (the pre-school is not-for-profit and is run by the parents) they ran an Easter raffle, and on Saturday had an Easter Trash and Treasure stall. In the weeks leading up to 'Stall Day', the pre-school families were asked to scour through their home, carry out a quick autumn clean and donate a bag of ‘stuff’ that would be sold at bargain prices.
The day was successful and there were some really great things for sale, which made you wonder why anyone would want to give them up! All for a good cause I suppose.
Indhi nearly tripped over himself - and everyone in his path for that matter - to get to Raphael’s two sai (plastic Ninja Turtle Daggers). His newfound treasure - only two dollars! Memphys couldn’t go past the string of pearls for one dollar; a treasure purchase her Aunty Pip would be extremely proud of. And Tallulah picked a red metal pull-long wagon. A slightly rusted treasure that proved to give fabulous rides up and down the footpath for Sadie. And then there were the Marks and Spencer tiger dress up costume, brand new Evan Almighty DVD and a Choose Your Own Adventure book. Someone’s trash had become the Kirks' treasure!
And while I won’t say much about the game on Saturday night, I’m just glad footy is back and some ‘unwanted goods’ from other clubs proved to be treasures for the red and the white. Daniel Bradshaw, Josh Kennedy, Ben McGlynn, Mark Seaby and Shane Mumford are sure to help make season 2010 an exciting one! And then there is Lewis Jetta, and all I can say is that he is so smooth; I’m a HUGE fan.
Yes we lost to the Saints, but this competition is a marathon, not a sprint, people. Bring on the Crows!
