In round three, when the Sydney Swans were preparing to run through the banner to take on the Brisbane Lions, an excited eight-year-old member got to live every Swans fan’s dream when she ran onto the field with the team.

Katie Beer from Cherrybrook had entered the Sydney Swans 2UE Mascot for a Day competition and on Thursday prior to the game, her mum told her she would be the Swans mascot for the clash.

“My mum got the call from the Sydney Swans telling her I had won,” Katie told sydneyswans.com.au after her mascot appearance.

“I wasn’t home at the time but mum was really excited and she called me at my friend’s house to tell me the good news.

“I thought she was joking. My friends, who are also Swans supporters, were so jealous when I told them what I had won.

.“I was very nervous when the day arrived, but of course I was excited too,” Katie said.

“The best bit about being the mascot was getting to run on the SCG in front of the crowd with the Swans players.

“It was great to run through the banner with the players and I also enjoyed watching the Swans beat the Lions.”

As part of the prize Katie and her family were given tickets to the game, and was decked out in a guernsey, shorts and socks – all of which became hers to keep.

“My eleven year-old brother and six year-old sister were there to watch me. I think my brother would have loved to win the competition himself,” Katie admitted.

The same opportunity is available to all kids aged between 6-15 years for all home games through the Swans and 2UE.
