The Sydney Swans have picked up four players in this morning's rookie draft, with Shane Biggs, Campbell Heath, Harry Cunningham and Jack Lynch all heading to the Swans for the 2012 season.
"The basic theme was to try to continue to bolster our running division through the rookie draft. That's what we set out to achieve and that was linked to the recruitment of Shane Biggs and Harry Cunningham, a local NSW boy from Turvey Park."- Swans Manager - Player Personnel, Kinnear Beatson.
Pick 13 - Shane Biggs
183cm
76kg

Bendigo Bombers/East Ringwood Juniors
The Swans chose 20-year old Shane Biggs with their first pick, number 13 overall, in the rookie draft. The mid-sized midfielder spent time playing with the Bendigo Bombers in the VFL last year under the tutelage of former Swan Shannon Grant. Originally from Ringwood - the same area of eastern Melbourne as Nick Malceski - Biggs also played seniors with Mulgrave in 2011 and Warrandyte in 2010 in the Eastern Football League..
Beatson says: "Shane is your classic late developer. He's a 20-year-old who grew quite a bit after year 12. He then developed his confidence and got recruited to play with the Bendigo Bombers towards the end of 2011. We brought him in for some testing and his results really pleased us with his running capacity."
Pick 31 - Campbell Heath
188cm
82kg
1/4/1991
Sydney Swans/Maffra
Campbell Heath, who was de-listed from the senior list at the end of last season, was placed on the rookie list with pick 31. Heath, who played two senior games with the Swans in 2010, ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in February of this year before undergoing LARS surgery.
Beatson says: "He's worked really hard, presented himself well in the pre-season and is really popular among the group. We know that when he's up and about he's totally committed at the ball and a strong, hard player. We were keen to give him another opportunity for sure."
Pick 93 - Harry Cunningham
181cm
71kg
6/12/1993
Turvey Park
Cunningham, a pacey 18-year old midfielder, had an impressive under-18 carnival with the NSW/ACT Rams and tested well at the State Draft Combine. The Turvey Park teenager was overlooked in last month’s AFL Draft, but has been training with the Swans for the last three weeks and today realised his dream of getting a chance in an AFL environment.
Beatson says: "He came in and started training with us immediately after the national draft, with no guarantees, but during that time he really impressed the match committee and they were certainly keen to secure him."
Pick 95 - Jack Lynch
190cm
84kg
7/9/1993
St Ignatius/Riverview
Lynch - who stands at 190 centimetres - joined the Swans on a NSW Scholarship in 2009, having only played Australian football for a few seasons. He was spotted by the Swans while playing for the NSW/ACT Rams and was offered a scholarship. Similarly to Cunningham, Lynch has been training with the Swans over the past three weeks.
Beatson says: "He didn't take the game up until late, not until he was around 14. Prior to that he had an elite basketball background and was coming from a fair way back compared to a lot of other young players. But he has impressed us and is improving quickly."
The Swans passed with picks 49, 66, 80, 86 and 91.
Biggs, Heath, Cunningham and Lynch will join Dylan McNeil and Eugene Kruger on the Swans rookie list in 2012.
