THE SYDNEY Swans will continue to prosper in the AFL with another second team based in New South Wales, according to AFL chief executive Andrew Demetriou.

Demetriou believes the Swans are an outstandingly run club, which will ensure their long-term success.

"We don't want to have two poorly performing franchises in the market and I have great faith in the Swans," he said.

"They are a superb football club who have performed exceptionally well on the field over the past six or seven years.

Demetrious praised the Swans – and also Geelong – for never bottoming out.

He also singled out coach Paul Roos and football operations manager Andrew Ireland for their efforts in keeping the Swans consistently this decade.

"They've got one of the best coaches going around and one of the best squads of players that are respected in the industry.

"They've got an outstanding board and they've got money in the bank – they're turning over $35 million and they are a credit to our code. I don't see the Swans falling away."
