Dan back on the track
Dan Hannebery has begun pre-season training less than two months after undergoing post-season shoulder surgery...
The young Swans brigade began their second week of pre-season training today with a running and light skills session in the morning, followed by yoga and a recovery swim at Clovelly Beach in the afternoon.
One player who Swans fans will be pleased to see out on the track is midfielder Dan Hannebery who hasn’t missed a beat since undergoing surgery on his right shoulder in late September.
Hannebery, who had to be subbed out of both of the Swans 2011 finals after dislocating the shoulder, has returned well from the operation, finishing last week’s 3 km time trial in fourth place and getting through another running session today.
“I had an operation basically straight after the season and it’s feeling pretty good,” Hannebery told SwansTV this afternoon.
“I’m about six weeks post operation, I’m starting to really ramp up the physio now, and the Physio is really happy with my range. I’ve just got to really try and ramp my strength up now and I’m probably two weeks away from doing ball work.”
Although only a few sessions back into the pre-season, Hannebery spoke highly of the eye-catching performances Swans rookies, Eugene Kruger and Dylan McNeil, have put in so far.
“(Kruger) is a great athlete but I think his footy is starting to come good as well, but athletically he is a freak,” Hannebery said.
“Dyl McNeil, I saw him up there today and he’s running well and if he has a ripper pre-season hopefully he can get his name up there and play senior footy next year.”
The 2010 AFL Rising Star winner is also looking to improve his own game throughout the pre-season and hit next year at full steam.
“I really want to work on my offence skills and my ball work, and just try to improve my decision making which is what every player wants to do,” he said.
“I’m just making sure I’m out there each session and keep working on the things I need to improve on and give us all, but me as well, a good start for next year.”
The 1-3 year players will be back in training tomorrow morning working on speed, stability and skill development before a late-morning weights session.
