Mumford was a late withdrawal from last weekend’s match against Fremantle, but trained freely at yesterday’s final training session.
“Mumford got through training and probably did a bit more than we expected and felt really good, so if he pulls up OK he should be right,” Swans coach John Longmire told sydneyswans.com.au.
“We are expecting him to pull up well and be OK to play.”
Mumford will be joined by forward/ruck option Jesse White and utility Andrejs Everitt, who have also been selected in the Swans’ round three side that will take on the Power.
Nick Smith (virus), Lewis Roberts-Thomson (cheekbone), and Mark Seaby are the three players who make way from the side that defeated the Dockers by 13 points in round two.
Longmire said versatility was the key to Everitt’s inclusion this week.
“We think Everitt gives us the flexibility because he can play forward, midfield or defence if we need him to, which makes sense with Nick Smith out,” he said.
“We know he’s flexible, we know he’s got speed, he just needs to make sure he brings it on Saturday to give us an extra bit of run and flexibility.”
But Longmire said he does not intend for Everitt to take on Smith’s specific role in defence for the Swans.
“A combination of a few players will help cover Nick Smith’s role,” he said.
“We’ve brought in Everitt and he’s able to play a number of different roles for us but we can also use players that we had playing last week that can play (Smith’s) role.”
Longmire said White’s selection was based on his ability to play as a target up forward, and will replace Lewis Roberts-Thomson as the team’s second ruck option.
“Jesse White obviously plays primarily in the forward /ruckman role rather than as a ruckman/forward, which is what we need this week,” he said.
“White has played during the pre-season and has played the practice games up until last week and had a tough training session last week after the game, so he’ll come back into the side and give us the forward/ruck option.”
Longmire added that Swans defender Rhyce Shaw, who played his first game of the season last week, pulled up well from last week’s match.
“We felt Rhyce did a really good job on Stephen Hill last week and kept him to two possessions in the first half,” he said.
“He is able to play a really good, strong lockdown role if we need him or a running role. He is able to adjust pretty well and he’ll be better for that run last week.”
