Dan confident of speedy recovery
Sydney Swans midfielder Dan Hannebery will undergo surgery on his injured shoulder this Friday…
Swans midfielder Dan Hannebery is confident he will be ready to return from his shoulder injury for the early stages of pre-season training in November.
Hannebery dislocated his left shoulder again as he was reaching for the ball during the third quarter of Friday night’s semi final loss at the MCG.
The 20-year old midfielder revealed to SwansTV today that he would undergo surgery on the injured shoulder this coming Friday, followed by two weeks rest and a stint in physio.
“I had the same thing happen last year to my right shoulder so I’m confident that I’ll be back pretty early in the pre-season,” Hannebery said.
“I’ll try and push it even more this time and try and get back early so I can do the physical stuff even earlier and try and get better again.”
Spectators grimaced as Swans doctor Nathan Gibbs struggled to put Hannebery's shoulder back into its socket last Friday night.
Hannebery said Gibbs believed a piece of bone in the shoulder had made the procedure more difficult.
Dan left the field under duress and had to be substituted out of the match.
“I had a scan yesterday morning and Gibbsy said that there was some bone that came out a weird way in the area where the shoulder usually slips in,” Hannebery said. “After about 10 minutes in the race it finally came back in.
“I’ve copped it from the boys for the way I was running off, there have been a few videos floating around.”
Hannebery said the disappointment of Friday night was only just starting to set in, with the playing group about to break for holidays following their season reviews with the coaching staff.
“It was just a disappointing night and now that you’ve had your meetings and you’re about to head home, it sinks in that the season is over,” he said.
In his third year at the club, Hannebery played all 24 of the Swans games in 2011, finishing as the team’s fourth highest possession getter with 497 at an average of just under 21 touches per game. Surprisingly, he also finished as the fifth-highest mark taker at the club, behind only Adam Goodes, Heath Grundy, Sam Reid and Ted Richards who all stand at over 190cm.
