The Sydney Swans reserves have put the final touches on their preparation for this Saturday’s second semi-final after they overcame a straight-shooting Ainslie in Canberra on Saturday.
The Swans held the lead at every change and eventually ran out four goal winners against a fast-finishing Ainslie outfit.
Jarred Moore was once again a standout for the Swans, finishing the game with three goals in a best on ground performance. He received outstanding support in the forward line from the Eastern Conference leading goalkicking, Trent Dennis-Lane, who contributed four goals to take his season tally to 50.
The Swans dominated in the big man department, with Mark Seaby and Mike Pyke having the better of the ruck duel and providing the likes of Dylan McNeil and livewire Jed Lamb with first use of the ball over the course of the game.
Top-up player Aidan Pini, who was a late call-up for the team, made the most of his opportunity as he contributed three goals for the team.
The Swans reserves will again meet Ainslie this Saturday afternoon in the Eastern Conference second semi-final at Manuka Oval. The winner of the battle will advance directly to the Conference final, while the loser will take on the winner of the GWS Giants and Eastlake semi-final in the preliminary final.
One cause for concern for the Swans heading into this week’s game is the form of Ainslie forward Marcus Crook, who booted five goals as Ainslie's best player. Crooks has now kicked 15 goals in the last six weeks.
