Straight after a game like last Sunday’s loss to Fremantle, everyone is pretty emotional and very disappointed.

You’re looking for answers and everyone is annoyed with themselves and feeling like they could have done more to affect the result.

As a side it is frustrating that you can’t win games that you think you should win - especially when the finals are around the corner and your spot in the eight is up in the air. That makes it even harder to deal with.

You think ‘what if I did this?’ or ‘what if we had have done that?’. Most of the guys struggle to sleep even after a win due to the adrenalin, but a loss makes it even worse, so a lot of the guys rock up the next day having had only three or four hours sleep.

But there is a rhythm to the week designed to make sure we move on as quickly as possible and get ready for this Saturday afternoon’s massive game against the Western Bulldogs at the SCG.

The club is paying special tribute to our members at the SCG this Saturday so we hope you get along to the game and we can repay you for the fantastic support you give to us every week.

This Monday we were all pretty down but in the afternoon, as we do every week, we had our game review. We looked at what we can improve, and for me that is probably the best part of the day. It just puts your focus on what we could have done better and  what we can learn from it.

From last Sunday’s game against Fremantle, we know we should have made more of our opportunities and we also know that we have to  keep our effort consistent over the game rather than half a quarter here or there.

One of the most important things post the review is that you do move on. You think about how you can put things into action at training and prepare for the next game - especially when there is only a six day break this week, and we’re  coming up against another good side with the season on the line.

You have to try to stay up mentally and get yourself ready to go again. It helps when you’ve got guys like Sugar Shane Mumford and Rhyce Shaw around.

They’ve been pests around the physio room this week. Shawy got in there early on Monday and cleaned the whole physio room and was getting into blokes, making sure everyone kept it neat and tidy.

It is good to have guys like him who are always trying to get the boys up. It’s important that everyone else jumps on board and it is not just Rhyce or Shane that are staying pretty positive.

After the review I think we’re positive we can turn it around.

The key is that you have to be hard on yourself early in the week but then make sure you get up and be positive and look forward to the challenge of the next game  - which is a massive game.

You can’t be sitting around sulking and feeling sorry for yourself for more than 24 hours. It is really important in AFL these days to be resilient and be honest with yourself and then move on.
