GREATER Western Sydney's first match at the elite level has ended in a 79-point drubbing at the hands of the Sydney Swans at Blacktown Olympic Park.

The young Giants found themselves out-matched in every facet of the game by their more-seasoned opponents and failed to register a goal in the 0.13.5 (83) to 0.0.4 (4) football lesson.

Josh Kennedy was outstanding for the Swans with three goals and 13 possessions, with newly appointed co-captain Jarrad McVeigh and youngster Craig Bird also catching the eye.

The young Giants did well in the early going with Lewis Johnston's goal the only major score in the first eight minutes.

Tomas Bugg had the first opportunity to write his name into the GWS record books nearly six minutes in after Ted Richards clattered into his back, but he pulled his set shot to the left from 40m.

That marked the end of the upstart GWS kids' resistance in the first half, with the Swans finding another gear to dominate possession and rattle through six more goals to open up an imposing 44-point lead at half-time.

The Swans continued on their merry way in the second half with co-captain Adam Goodes, Gary Rohan and Byron Sumner all providing highlights up forward, where the ball was stationed for most of the time.
