Swans make it seven straight

Swans midfielder Ryan O’Keefe said he was impressed with his team’s resilience in today’s 29-point win over St Kilda.
The Swans were outscored five goals to one in the first term, before fighting back hard in the second quarter to lead 5.13 (43) to 5.4 (34) at the long break.
Speaking to SwansTV after the match, O’Keefe said the Swans found a way to get on top, despite their poor kicking in the first term.
“(St Kilda) are a top side and were pretty much at full strength and they had a lot to play for, so they came out and gave us a really hard contest,” he said.
“I think for a while we were our own worst enemy and in the first quarter we missed a lot of goals and we made it harder on ourselves than we really needed to, but in saying that, we’ll take the win against a quality side.”

But O’Keefe said that while the goals weren’t flowing early, the Swans were playing the right style of game to get ahead in the match.
“Even though we kicked four or five behinds before we kicked a goal, all our indicators were good, we just couldn’t put it on the scoreboard,” he said.
“Even though (St Kilda) were a few goals up on us, we knew our intensity and how we were playing was right, we just needed to be a bit more composed and slot the goals.
“We knew all our indicators were working so we just kept doing it and kept pressing and pressing and eventually it turned for us.
“The boys were able to capitalise and kick some good clutch goals when they Saints were pretty close to us.”
The win takes the Swans to their 13th win of the season, and their seventh straight.
Speaking after the match, midfielder Josh Kennedy said the Swans were pleased to be able to make amends for their round nine loss to the Saints with a win at the SCG today.
“There certainly was (a lot of pressure),” he said.
“We really respect St Kilda as a team and we really wanted to get after them today because we were a bit disappointed with the result from last time, so I think we owed them one and it was good to get the win.”
Following their seventh consecutive victory, Kennedy said the Swans have the confidence to continue their winning form this season.
“Our confidence has been the same from within since the start of the season and since the start of pre-season,” he said.
“We have things that we know if we drop off then we can be a pretty ordinary side, so we’ve got to maintain our ferocity and hopefully maintain our contested attack on the ball, because we know that keeps us in good stead.”
One of the only negatives to come out to today’s win was the loss of ruckman Shane Mumford for the second half, after leaving the ground with a knee concern.
Swans second ruck option Mike Pyke, said he had to step up in the absence of Mumford late in the game.
“Obviously the goal in that situation was to go in and just make a really good contest and give our mids the best opportunity to have first use,” he said.
“I think I was pretty pleased with how it went.”

Pyke praised the efforts of Lewis Roberts-Thomson, who assisted with the ruck duties once Mumford left the field.
“Lewie is probably the most versatile player we’ve got,” he said.
“He goes forward, he goes back, he goes in the ruck and he does everything that’s required of him, and I thought he did a really good job.”
