The Sydney Swans resumed pre-season training on Monday after a two-week Christmas break and now commence a seven-week program which leads into the first pre-season game on February 22.

Whilst for many the Christmas break is about indulgence and relaxation, the players had an individual program to ensure they resume training in good shape.

“There is no such thing as easing back in anymore,” co-captain Brett Kirk said prior to the first training session of 2009.

“You're expected to do the program over the Christmas break and look after yourself, so we come back in expecting to have a pretty hard session today.

“The guys are pretty professional these days, even after the eight week break at the end of the season, they’ve looked after themselves.”

Kirk is feeling good to be back, both mentally and physically.

“This time of the year, how can't you feel good?” the 2008 Club Champion runner-up added.

“The sun's out, my body feels good and we're training hard; all you expect from pre-season.

“I think everyone just really enjoys this time of the year.

“There's not as much pressure on you as during the season, the sun's out, everyone flying at this time of year and in a great mental state.

“I do really enjoy it and I think the other players feel that way as well.”
