Not so easy-peasy...

This past week has highlighted a few things in my world that are not as easy as they seem.

I went to see Lady Gaga on Thursday night with my BFF Katie. Unreal show, not sure what parents were doing taking their young children as it fell somewhere between an MA 15+ and R rating. Fabulous show though. The Lady Gaga concert has been in my not-so-big social calendar for six months, so I must say I was a little disappointed when Brett told me he had to go the AFL season launch in Melbourne on Thursday. The same Thursday as Lady Gaga!

Coming to terms with not having AFL House on speed dial, I let out a ginormous exhale of hot air, found a babysitter, gave up on dinner with BFF Katie before the show, but was still attending Gaga concert. Sigh of relief.

I had great plans of dressing up for Gaga, but with swimming lessons, dinner, baths, after-dinner clean up, bedtime books and lights out before the babysitter arrived, me going glam and avant garde... Not so easy-peasy. Channeling the runways of Milan was scrapped from my plan. (Just between you and I, I didn’t even get to have a shower - it’s amazing what some deodorant and Elizabeth Arden perfume can do!)

And then there’s the boots I wanted to wear - my patent leather ‘Gaga’ boots. Worth a small fortune, but walking in them… Not so easy-peasy. Boots were also put on the scrap heap.

Indhi is learning to read.
It’s all very exciting and he feels very grown up in this new world of written words, sight words and high frequency words. He brings home a reader every night and when the girls are in bed we sit on the lounge and read the book. One night, the story was about a knight. Encouraged to sound unknown words out he sounded out the ‘k’ at the beginning. Explaining to a five-year-old reader-learner that the ‘k’ in knight is silent, that ‘ph’ has an ‘f’ sound; and how and when to use the same sounding 'their', 'there' and 'they’re'… Not so easy-peasy. But really, let’s be honest, who came up with this?! Learning and understanding the English language… Not so easy-peasy.

The Swans players were presented with their jumpers for season 2010 this past week. This is a tradition and rite of passage for old and new team members and one that I consider to be very special. Not everyone gets presented with a Sydney Swans jumper and the journey involved in arriving at such a professional sporting Club… Not so easy-peasy. Brett said in his speech that night that wearing the red and white is a fortunate life. It is indeed!

Footy starts this week, yahoo! An exciting clash against Ross Lyon’s Saints… Not so easy-peasy but we most definitely have the team to win.

Cheer, cheer the red and the white!
