Shoulder blow for Parker
Swans midfielder Luke Parker will miss up to two months with a broken collarbone...
TOUGH young Swans midfielder Luke Parker is set for a two-month stint on the sidelines after breaking his collarbone in Sunday's dominant victory over the Western Bulldogs at the SCG.
Parker collided heavily with Bulldog Matthew Boyd in the third term and, while he immediately bounced to his feet, he was clearly in trouble and was quickly substituted from the game.
The Swans rediscovered some of their best football in the 20.12 (132) to 5.10 (40) drubbing of the Dogs, but they will be without one of their best players this season for an extended period of time.
"He's got a broken collarbone, so six-to-eight weeks would be a good-case scenario," coach John Longmire said after the game.
"It's unfortunate for him, he's been a really good contributor for us and is a super young player, hard and tough, and he's had a couple of breaks this year.
"I know he's tough, but I don't think he'll be coming back any quicker than that."
Parker also suffered a crack to his jaw in round one, yet he hadn't missed a game this season prior to today.
His prospects of some finals football were at least greatly enhanced on Sunday, with the Swans destroying the Bulldogs with a stunning nine-goal opening term.
The home side was perfectly on song as it galloped to a 47-point lead at the first break in a match that had been tipped as a tight, contested battle.
"It was a good quarter," Longmire said.
"It helps when you hit the scoreboard and put scoreboard pressure on.
"If you can kick nine straight it makes a massive difference.
"We want to make it hard to play here at the SCG and apart from one quarter against Adelaide, we want to make sure it's a tough place to play, and I think the players really made that happen in the first quarter."
Parker's injury was the only disappointing aspect of the game, with Lewis Jetta continuing his break-out season with four more goals, taking his tally for the season to 24.
Trent Dennis-Lane is also doing his best to cement a place in the forward line, kicking three goals, while Jude Bolton, Kieren Jack and Dan Hannebery again enjoyed plenty of possession.
The Swans next face fellow top-four aspirant Essendon at Etihad Stadium before their mid-season bye.
