Hi Mummy. I've got two questions; one serious, one not so much.
You've come off a limited pre-season through injury. Do you feel like you're back to your best yet or do you have a little way to go?

Shane Mumford: Everyone is still trying to get match fitness up. It doesn’t matter what training you do in the preseason, once you start playing games everyone gets worn out pretty quick. I’m still a little bit off where I’d like to be but hopefully in the next few weeks I’ll be up and running.

Also your housemate, Josh Kennedy, is in all his shirtless glory in my latest edition of Cleo as a finalist of the Bachelor of the Year competition. How much of a ribbing is he copping?

SM: Joey has probably copped a fair bit. There’s a few photos and a few of his profiles up around the club in a few different places, but I think there are few blokes there who are a bit jealous too. Who knows, Joey might meet the girl of his dreams out it?

What do you think is the most important thing for a young ruckman to work on?

SM: These days I think you need to be able to play a few different positions, you can’t just be a ruckman. Learn to play as a forward or backman as well. I reckon being able to jump off both sides of your body at the centre bounce is a helpful thing as well.
Especially with the new interchange rules, you need to be really fit these days.

Hey Shane,
Where do you rate Hille and Ryder in terms of rucking combo in the comp?

SM: They’re both good ruckman. It’s going to be a good challenge for me, and whoever else we decide to take in. You’ve got two different styles of ruckmen there, Hille’s more of a solid, stronger ruckman who rucks a bit like I do, and Paddy’s got that amazing leap as everyone's seen so you have to be able to combat that somehow.

Who is the toughest ruckman you've played against?

SM: That’s got to go to Aaron Sandilands just for his size and strength. He’s just too big to try and stop basically. He actually runs quite well for a big guy, so he’s definitely the hardest I’ve come up against.
