There was a sombre mood in the Swans dressing rooms yesterday after the disappointing loss to Richmond.

Coach John Longmire spoke to the players behind closed doors before they did their regular post match warm down.

The players were ashen-faced, and extremely disappointed in their effort. Team leaders such as Rhyce Shaw and Kieren Jack took the responsibility of speaking publicly to let members and supporters know the players view the performance as unacceptable.

Jack said the overall effort wasn’t there for a team with finals aspirations on the line.

“I’m a bit speechless to be honest,” Jack told SwansTV post game.

“Basically the effort today showed that we didn’t want to play finals footy and that’s an indictment on this group.

“The effort side of things and the intensity has been a real positive over the last few weeks and we’ve been able to string some four quarter efforts together, but this week was just horrible.”

Jack said the review of yesterday’s performance would lay bare some ‘hard truths’ the team must rectify before Sunday’s game against St Kilda at ANZ Stadium.

“We’ve just got to really review this and there’ll be some hard truths, but we’ve got to get something out of it and move on to next week really quickly,” he said.

“We’ve just got to turn up and go back to the things that made us a really good footy side. It wasn’t too long ago that we were playing good footy, and we’ve got to find that really quickly.”
