They know how to run, they know how to box, but do they know how to dance?
That was the challenge set for the Swans at training this week, with the playing group taking part in a Zumba fitness session.

While some players struggled to find their rhythm, Tony Armstrong and Ted Richards showed off their stylish Latino moves, while Irishman Tommy Walsh proved that River Dance was not the only style of dancing he could master.

Adam Goodes and Lewis Jetta were also among the players who appeared to love the Zumba work out, making the most of high-energy dance program.

Speaking to sydneyswans.com.au after the session, Armstrong said despite his better judgement, the music just took over.

“I came in with the mindset that I wasn’t going to get into it but I couldn’t help myself,” he said.

“By the end I was going a bit overboard if anything.

“Honestly by the end, I was loving every minute of it.”

Armstrong said Zumba was an enjoyable change from the team’s regular training sessions, but was just as hard a work out as some of the other classes.

“It’s something different because we usually do boxing or go on the bikes or a running session, but it was good to come in and do a bit of Zumba,” he said.

“By the end I was blowing and sweating a bit, so it was a pretty good work out.”

And despite claiming he was forced to stand up the front of the class, Armstrong said he was confident he wasn’t the only Swans player dancing their heart out at Zumba.

“I think Teddy was doing his best, but I was right up the front because I got stitched as a first-year (player), but I’m sure guys like Kieren Jack and Craig Bird were really going in head first (too).”
