Sydney Swans coach John Longmire has indicated that the Club may again look to bolster its playing list during the AFL's trade period, which kicked off in Melbourne today.

Pat Veszpremi and Paul Bevan have both indicated that they are keen to pursue opportunities at other clubs, but Longmire assured Swans fans that trades will only be completed if there is a significant benefit to Swans playing list in return.

“The Doggies are the ones that showed the most interest in regards to Patty, so we’re just working through that at the moment,” Longmire said.

“He’s only played three years in the system. We think he can still play quality AFL football but if he’s interested in heading back to Melbourne, we just have to look at all of our opportunities,” he said.

Longmire today confirmed that the Swans had made inquiries about the speedy Justin Sherman from the Brisbane Lions.

“We’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the coming days. Obviously we’ve got a bit of interest in Justin as a hard running player, so we’ll just have to see what transpires with that.”

Longmire indicated that run and speed would be at the top of the Clubs wish list for any potential trades.

“I don’t think you can have too many runners. If you look at the grand final on the weekend and just generally, running players are just so important. An ability to play a variety of different positions is also pretty valuable,” he said.
