THE SYDNEY Swans have taken great confidence out of Sunday's convincing win over Hawthorn but are not allowing themselves to get excited about their premiership chances, veteran midfielder Jude Bolton says.

Bolton told SEN radio on Monday morning it was still so early in the season that the Swans were not getting carried away with their 5-0 start or the growing number of media commentators talking up their flag chances.

"(The win over Hawthorn) certainly doesn't make a season," Bolton said.

"But it gives us enormous confidence going up against a team who has really had our measure. We know what a quality opponent Hawthorn is. So it was just a really good test for our group."

Although stressing the Swans were not looking any further ahead than their clash with Adelaide at the SCG on Saturday night, Bolton said the Swans' mix of experience and youth gave them a good platform for future success.

"I think we've got a really good mix of old and young," Bolton said. "It's how we develop that and keep going and keep building."

Bolton praised Swans coach John Longmire's role in fast-tracking the development of the team's youngsters, saying he was an excellent communicator like his predecessor Paul Roos.

"He's been a really good teacher of the game plan to our younger group," Bolton said.

"We have had a huge turnover of our list (and Longmire has been) able to take those young guys and develop them really well.

"We're rapt with the way all of our young guys have really stepped into the fray."

Bolton said the Swans' current strengths were their evenness, midfield depth and discipline.

He also acknowledged the outstanding early season form of midfielder Josh Kennedy, who was again one of the Swans' best against Hawthorn.

"You watch his game really closely and you just realise that he doesn't get knocked off the ball," Bolton said.

"And he's that hard to tackle, he just keeps moving in the tackle. He's been influential for us and we've just been able to generate so many scores from him.

"And now he's really adding marking and goalkicking to his game. So he's taken his game to another level and he's just been wonderful for us."
