WHEN Brett Kirk was a boy, he dreamt of playing for the Swans in big games.

Now youngsters in NSW have the opportunity to help their own AFL dream come true by learning skills from Swans champions such as Kirk, and his co-captains Adam Goodes and Craig Bolton at the first Sydney Swans AFL Camp - but hurry because registrations close at the end of this week.

While Swans players regularly appear at clinics and schools in Sydney and across NSW, never before has the Club offered youngsters the chance to spend two full days with Swans coaching staff, with players also in attendance.

To be held during the school holidays, on July 8 and 9, the camp will enable boys to test their skills in an elite environment under the guidance of expert coaches such as dual premiership player Stuart Dew and former Swan Daniel McPherson.

Besides Kirk, Goodes and Bolton, other players including Tadhg Kennelly, Jude Bolton, Jarrad McVeigh, Ryan O'Keefe and Rhyce Shaw will also help out.

Available to boys aged between eight and 15, the camp aims to provide boys with an opportunity to develop their football and athletic skills, and experience life within a professional sporting club.

“We developed the Camp after identifying a need to add to the developmental opportunities for young footballers in Sydney and New South Wales in general,’’ Sydney Swans Skill Acquisition Consultant, Ben Moore said.

“There is a huge amount of knowledge and expertise within the Swans Football Department and we know that this knowledge can be filtered through to young players using a forum such as an AFL camp.’’

Based on similar camps run by European soccer clubs such as AC Milan, the Camp will feature tailored learning sessions on topics such as strength and conditioning, nutrition and psychology, and the opportunity for in-depth analysis of each boy¹s performance using the latest skill analysis software.

Boys don't need to have any experience playing junior AFL or be currently registered with an AFL club. Activities will be structured according to the experience of each boy and groups will be arranged accordingly.
