A cold winter's Sunday morning following a disappointing match the night before didn't ruin any of the fun at the Sydney Swans’ Melbourne junior footy clinic at Albert Park.

Over 150 kids plus their parents took part in the clinic which was attended by the majority of the Swans playing group.

Among the highlights of the clinic - besides Jude Bolton, who was loved by kids and parents alike - was the tackle station and Volkswagen handball challenge.

For the kids, it was a great opportunity to meet their favourite Swans players, get some autographs and learn a few tricks from their red and white heroes.

Swans defender Rhyce Shaw, who grew up in the north-eastern suburbs of Melbourne, said the players always look forward to spending time with their junior supporters every chance they get.

“It’s good fun. We don’t get to do it much, we only come down here a couple of times so it’s good to give back to the old South Melbourne supporters who bring their grandkids along,” Shaw said.

“Clinics like this are really enjoyable, they don’t get to see us that much so it’s good fun, the players really look forward to it.”

Following Saturday's disappointing match against St Kilda, which the Swans lost by 28 points, Shaw said it's important to learn from their errors and look to improve next week.

“It was a pretty tough game. We started off pretty well but they just beat us in the areas that we pride ourselves on which is our pressure and our defence,” Shaw said.

“We didn’t use the ball that well and we took a few chances early but didn’t capitalise later on and that’s probably cost us.”

Shaw said the team is eagerly anticipating their next match against the Western Bulldogs at the SCG this Sunday.

“It’s never good to lose but when you look at it we’re six (wins) and three (losses) and we’ve just got to take our chances from here on and aim to get back on the board this week against the Western Bulldogs,” he said.

“It’s going to be a tough game, they’ve been playing some good footy lately so we’ve got to make sure we bring our A-game.

“Every game counts from now on so it’s going to be really important to get the win this week.”

The Swans play the Western Bulldogs this Sunday, June 3 at 3.15pm at the SCG.
