This week our fans posted questions for Jarred Moore. Read on for Jarred’s answers to a selection of those.

Ang asks what happened against Melbourne?

Jarred says: Melbourne beat us in the contested ball. We weren’t able to get our hands on the footy, we were beaten in a lot of 50-50 situations. We had been able to win those the previous few weeks but we weren’t able to do that on the weekend and they smashed us in that area.

Larry says he was shocked at Sunday’s result and asks did you all go in over-confident, or were you complacent?

Jarred says: I don’t think we were complacent. It was a really big game for us. We would have been able to consolidate a spot in the eight but we weren’t able to win the ball and Melbourne used it really well when they got it. So I don’t think we were over-confident, we were just beaten really easily on the day.
The mood before the game was as good as usual. Everyone was keen to get a win so we could consolidate a spot in the eight and it was a big game with Jude playing his 250th.

Paul Kalligas says the forward pressure wasn’t good enough against Melbourne, and asks what strategies the coaching staff will put in place to address this?

Jarred says: The pressure all over the ground wasn’t good enough, not just the forward line. It was an area that we were down on everywhere at the weekend. We weren’t able to keep the ball inside our forward 50m area, so during the week we will do a lot of work on tackling and 50-50 contests and shutting our opponents down.

Wendy asks, how are we going to make a comeback against Geelong?

Jarred says: The big focus for us will be putting our head over the ball and winning contested possession. They’re a really good challenge for us. They’re the benchmark of the competition and it will be good to test ourselves against those sorts of blokes. They’re always hard and win contested ball, so we definitely have a big challenge there and it is one area we are looking to compete with them.

Christian says you’re his favourite player, and asks whether the determination to win the hard ball will live through to the next generation of Swans players?

Jarred says: It is something we pride ourselves on as a group and part of the culture is to put your head over the ball when it’s your turn to go so I can really see that extending to the next generation. To get a game you have to do that at the Swans.
