You can sense Peter Everitt is excited about not only making a return to the football field this weekend, but also donning the Sydney Swans colours for the first time.“It is great to have a red and white guernsey on and I am ready to play my first game, it is finally here,” Everitt told a packed media conference following training at Lakeside on Thursday morning.“I tried to work it out last night, and my maths isn’t the best, but I have almost had eight months off!"I could have almost had a reco (knee reconstruction) in that time, so it is a long time and I have definitely been itching to get out there for a while.“I have been able to train at full intensity over the last two weeks and that has been a massive bonus so now I am looking forward to taking on the Tigers this weekend.”Spida is also thrilled to have the number ten on his back again - Paul Williams' former number - after wearing number one at Hawthorn."I am happy to be back in number ten. I tried to get it at Hawthorn but Chance Bateman wanted 25 grand for it, I am not sure if that makes a betting scandal or not but I wasn’t prepared to pay the 25 so I had to cop number one," he joked."Now up here Hally wouldn’t give it up so I am back to ten. I tried on Willo’s but it didn’t really fit me around the stomach as it was a bit loose so I have had it taken in."Coach Paul Roos is just as eager to have ‘Spida’ at the Club and running out for the Swans on Saturday.“It is good Peter is ready to go, I am sure he is keen to get out and play,” Roos said.“He is a different type of ruckman to what we have had, the midfielders are going to have to get used to him and what he can do well and the coaches are also going to have to watch him over the next three weeks."His first game is more about game time and getting used to the players as there will be (Brett) Kirk, (Nic) Fosdike, (Amon) Buchanan, Jude Bolton, (Adam) Goodes - some of our top midfielders to work with in the first game.“So not to overcomplicate things really, just to get out there and get his rucking right and get his timing right at the centre bounces and we will make sure we monitor his game time.“It is certainly exciting to have him on the field.”According to Everitt the result of this weekend’s regional match won't matter but the game time and preparation between now and round one will be important.“Last week and the next three weeks is important for us to get ready for round one,” the 32-year-old said.“We have a strong line-up this weekend and Richmond is going to be missing a few but we are all about building towards round one.“Round one is hot and you want to get money in the bag early."The players have discipline and a lot of faith in themselves. There is a lot of talent around but just their inner belief, it is something I haven’t seen at a lot of clubs.“When you come from a different club you walk in with open eyes because you don’t know what to expect but they are switched on and ready to go.“The slow start last year, even though they made a grand final, probably didn’t help them so we want to rectify that and make sure we have a good start to the season.”Despite making back-to-back Grand Final's Roos has always been an advocate for two senior ruckmen.Jason Ball and Darren Jolly shared the duties in 2005, while Jolly was the sole ruckman at times last year but in season 2007 the Club looks well stocked again.“It is good to have a senior guy in Spida, and then (Darren) Jols is now getting more experienced and (Stephen) Doyley as well, so we have the three tiers now as well as the two young guys in Earl Shaw and Sam Rowe and also young 17 year-old Daniel Currie,” Roos said.“What it means for us is over the next two-three years we don’t have to go out into the draft again and look for a ruckman so that is good for the short to medium term."At previous clubs Everitt admits he may not have readily passed on his knowledge and experience which Roos alluded to but believes that is set to change.“Over the years I haven’t really given away too much to teammates but I will now be sharing everything, and we will be trying our best, myself, Jols and Stephen Doyle, to be the best trio in the competition,” Everitt said.“I can offer a bit to some of the younger guys, even Jolly and Doyle who are only 26, offer them some of my experiences. As a mentor or a leader, however you want to look at it."They say if you learn just one thing from your coach you would be pretty smart so I am going to be pretty smart one day because I have had nine coaches.”
