The Sydney Swans reserves returned to the winner’s list this morning with a 20-point win over Eastlake at Lakeside Oval, with the final scores finishing 15.11 (101) to 12.9 (81).

After tasting defeat for the first time in 2011 last weekend, the Swans came out firing, kicking nine of the game’s first ten goals, and it looked like they would continue their domination of NEAFL’s Eastern Conference opponents.

To Eastlake’s credit, they fought back late in the third quarter and set up an exciting finish after they drew within 16 points of the Swans in the opening stages of the last quarter.

With the game on the line, a fine piece of movement from Jarred Moore at a stoppage in the Swans forward 50 saw him create an opening and snap truly to seal the game for the home team.

Moore was one of the Swans best throughout the four quarters. His precision by foot, and ability to lay a tackle in the clinches set the standard for the many young top-up players who featured for the Swans.

Nathan Gordon was the main target inside the Swans forward 50, kicking the team’s opening two goals and offering an attacking threat up until the final siren. Gordon finished with three goals, and was an effective link between the midfield and forward line.

As the leading big man on the ground, Mark Seaby controlled the ruck for the majority of the game, and made the most of the time he spent forward with two goals. Max Otten stepped into the role of back-up ruckman to assist Seaby, and showed he had a spring greater than his 190cm stature would suggest.

At only 17 years of age, Brandon Jack - brother of Kieren - played his first game as one of the Swans top-up players and marked the occasion with a goal. Kane Murphy continued his good 2011 form with three goals, while James Brain’s dribbled goal tight in on the boundary line while being tackled in the second quarter was one of the highlights of the game.

The Swans reserves will take on GWS next Saturday morning from 10.40am as the lead-in to the seniors game against the Western Bulldogs.
