SYDNEY Swans midfielder Josh Kennedy has compiled an outstanding individual season that should lead to a first All Australian nod on Monday - and he hopes there is still plenty more to come in 2012.

Kennedy ended the home and away season first in the AFL in clearances for the second straight year and first in contested possessions.

Averaging 27 disposals and five tackles per game, as well as kicking 25 goals to date, the 24-year-old has vaulted himself into both the elite category of AFL midfielders and into the Brownlow Medal conversation.

Kennedy has been one of the great success stories since moving to Sydney from Hawthorn at the end of 2009, playing 71 games straight since round one 2010 and featuring in three consecutive finals series.

The Swans have a week off before facing either Collingwood or West Coast in a preliminary final at ANZ Stadium on Friday week and Kennedy is far from finished.

"Personally I'm pretty happy with the season," Kennedy told reporters on Tuesday.

"I'm not finished yet and hopefully in three weeks I'll be able to reflect on the season on a personal level.

"It's a huge opportunity and it's an exciting time among the footy club and I'm really looking forward to a prelim final in two weeks' time.

"I haven't had a lot of time to reflect on the season yet and hopefully I won't have to for three weeks."

At 188cm and 96kg, and with a penchant for hard, gritty football, Kennedy is tailor-made for September action.

He admits he loves the style of play that is crucial in the finals and believes the Swans have a game plan that is built for the business end of the year.

"I love the rawness of it and how much it's just stripped back," he said.

"It's just basically a lot of one-on-one contests, it's a game of inches, and that's what I really love about it.

"I think it suits me and I think it suits our game plan and our game style we want to play."

Kennedy is hopeful the Pies and Eagles "get a bit bashed up" on Saturday and doesn't have a preference for which side the Swans will face in the preliminary final.

And he feels the week off has come at the perfect time for his club.

"We've had a pretty tough month of football and we're pretty bruised and battered," he said.

"We've given ourselves a great opportunity just to freshen up and get our heads right for the upcoming game against whoever it may be.

"Our sole focus is trying to be as fresh and as ready as we possibly can for the upcoming game.

"We'll have a few sessions this week and head into next week with a lot of confidence and hopefully a really fit and ready-to-go squad."
