MOST of our week is spent either recovering from a game or in preparation and planning for the next one.
But there is one day a week where we put that aside and have a full day to ourselves. It’s usually Wednesday, and it’s really important to help us freshen up both mentally and physically and get over any soreness.
All the boys have different routines and rituals for their day off but I like to start mine with a recovery session. I usually go into the club early (I know it’s a day off but some things don’t change!) and have an ice bath and do a bit of stretching.
I might then go and annoy our physio, Matt Cameron, by asking a few dozen questions about his methods, just to get under his skin.
Then I usually give Kizza a call and see what he’s up to for the day. Recently he’s been in rehab for his injured ankle and has to do off-legs work on Wednesdays so he’s a bit frustrated and not that available for a coffee.
We like to go to Coogee or else to Le Paris Go café in Bondi for banana bread, which is a pretty cool place and there’s plenty happening there to keep us amused. Kizza doesn’t really like it if we go to Bondi - it’s too far out of his comfort zone in Randwick and he gets cranky.
Then quite often me, Benny McGlynn, Joey (Kennedy), Tadhg, and maybe Mal and Teddy get together and go for a swim at the Icebergs pool in Bondi - it’s right on the ocean and has the best view in the world.
This week I also went to the movies with Tadhg and one of his mates to see Hangover 2 and it was pretty funny. We didn’t stop laughing for the whole two hours.
And to top off a good day, Benny’s partner Hannah cooked a lovely dinner for me and Joey and Ben of course - lamb shanks in tomato with mash, which was fantastic.
Then it was home to put the head on the pillow and pass out, day off complete.
