First look for Goodesy
Sydney Swans champ Adam Goodes got a sneak peak at the newest SCG earlier this week
The dual Brownlow medallist was the first player from any code to view the SCG from the top level of the new stand, which will retain their formers names – the MA Noble Stand and the Bradman Stand – upon completion.
The SCG is edging closer to the finish of its dramatic upgrade, which will see 13,300 new seats in the new stands, which will raise the SCG’s seating capacity to 48,000.
In addition to the new stands, the SCG field will also undergo an upgrade, with the surface due to be extended by six metres ahead of the 2014 AFL season. The upgrade will mean that the SCG will be just five metres shorter and five metres narrower than the MCG.
Upon completion, the SCG redevelopment will see the new stands deliver first class catering, bars, dining and media facilities, as well as a roof top terrace behind the level four seating deck, which will provide spectacular views of the Sydney CBD skyline.
New change rooms for visiting AFL teams will also be built ahead of the 2014 season.
The $186 million redevelopment began in 2008, when the Victor Trumper stand was completed as stage one of the upgrade.
The redevelopment has already seen the installation of the ground’s 272-square-metre video screen - the Dally Messenger Scoreboard - which is the largest available in any Australian stadium.
Over 4,600 concourse seats have already been installed for fans, which have been in place since the Richmond home game in round 18.
Great seats are still available for Sunday’s home match against St Kilda at the SCG, including a number of bronze reserved seats at the Northern end of the ground; get your tickets here.
