Sydney Swans debutant Zac Foot has been lauded for his high work rate after an exciting first game in the red and white.

Foot collected 10 disposals, five marks and a goal on debut to be one of many Swans to play a pivotal role in the 41-point Sydney Derby XIX win over GWS.

Co-captain Luke Parker praised Sydney’s sixth debutant of the season for his hard work to make it to the top level.

“The work that Zac has put in over the last two years has been incredible,” Parker told ABC Grandstand.

“He had a lot of areas he had to work on in his game.

“We knew his effort and running ability was always there, but to see how hard he works and how professional he is off the field is why he has gotten his opportunity.”

Foot joined a rare group of players to have kicked their first goal in their first game of AFL football when he kicked truly from a set shot during the second quarter.

But it was his ability to run out the match and apply pressure late in the contest that impressed his mentor the most.

“It was great just watching him in that last quarter, I think the game was already done and watching him chase from the wing right down to the forward line to put pressure on Daniels having a shot at goal,” Parker said.

“That is what he was in the team for, for his work rate, so hopefully he can continue to use that work rate.

“And it’s always nice to see the team celebrate a goal like that.”
