Senior coach John Longmire whilst disappointed with the loss, believes his players can take plenty away from their clash with Port Adelaide as they continue to develop their young side. 

Longmire acknowledged the quality of his opposition as the Power took an early lead, before the Swans clawed their way back in to the game.

“In the first half they (Port Adelaide) were harder and cleaner around the ball, particularly around clearances. We should’ve been cleaner in the first half,” Longmire said.

"We had a really good third term - a couple of our entries were great, we had a lot of footy in the forward half but just didn’t capitalize, so we were a bit inefficient there.”

Lead by milestone man Jake Lloyd (31 disposals, 7 marks), the Swans made a gallant come back effort in the 2nd half, but were eventually held at bay by the Power. Longmire lauded the belief of his group to remain in the contest, showing a lot of positivity as the game progressed.

"I always think you’re a bit of a chance - we had the ball inside our forward 50 a few times in the last quarter, but couldn’t execute,” Longmire said.

"It happens in footy sometimes; you have a lot of forward momentum and then they (opposition) kick one down the other end, and you think we should’ve made more of that pressure. Port are playing a good hard brand of footy, not everything went our way but we adjusted and had some real spirit in the second half to get it right.”

When asked if youth was a factor in the loss, Longmire was quick to point to the determination of his group.

"We’re still striving to be as competitive as we can regardless of age,” Longmire said.

"We’ve just got to keep hanging in there - there’s different things each week we’ll keep working on and set the foundations for a strong team. You come up against a decent team and learn good lessons."
