The Sydney Swans have gifted their 2020 apparel to the Far North Queensland community today at their final training session at Cazalys Stadium.

The Club has been embraced by the local Cairns community, having called the regional city ‘home’ for the past 3 weeks as part of a different looking season which has meant a substantial amount of time in a hub environment due to COVID-19.

Local clubs North Cairns Tigers, Cairns City Lions, Cape York Eagles and Manunda Hawks were the lucky recipients of Swans training apparel as was Shawna Dalton, a mental health nurse from MHATODS, Torres and Cape Hospital and health service in the town of Aurukun, who made the long 830km journey to collect a care package.

Swans co-Captain Josh Kennedy was on hand to meet some representatives for a socially distanced photo and said it was great to be able to give back to the community.

“It's been an amazing time spent here in Cairns and the community have been great to us so it is great to give back. Hopefully our apparel gets some good use up here.” Kennedy said.

“It’s fantastic for the footy club and great for the AFL in general that the red and white will go so far and wide, the more boys and girls kicking a footy around the better the game will be.”

The Club would like to thank AFL Cairns and the local community for all their hard work and support during the time spent in the region.
