Richard Colless’ legacy will live on at the Sydney Swans, with a portrait of the former Chairman set to be mounted in the club’s Board Room.

The portrait, which was organised in secret by club benefactor Basil Sellers, was presented to Colless in front of 150 guests at a cocktail party held at the home of Sydney Swans Foundation Chairman Peter Ivany and his wife Sharon on Tuesday evening.

Painted by Archibald Prize finalist Mathew Lynn, who also attended the event, the portrait depicts Colless wearing his club tie and a Swans scarf with the premiership cup in one hand.

Swans Chairman Andrew Pridham and CEO Andrew Ireland attended Tuesday’s event, as well as co-captains Jarrad McVeigh, Kieren Jack and a number of other senior Swans players.

General Manager of Business Development Tony Morwood said the event was a great success and was a chance to recognise some of the great work achieved by the Sydney Swans Foundation.

“In recent years the Foundation has greatly assisted the QBE Sydney Swans Academy as well as the Sydney Swans football department,” he said.

“This year the Foundation assisted with the purchase of GPS units for all players, the club’s new altitude room, as well as the redevelopment of the player change rooms.”
