The Sydney Swans are mourning the passing of long-time support staff volunteer Bob Clutterbuck.
Bob, 77, passed away on Thursday after more than 50 years of service to the Swans.
He commenced with South Melbourne in the late 1960s and fulfilled many match-day roles in his time at the club, including boot studder, trainer, property and drink steward.
Bob loved the club and rarely missed a game in Melbourne over the course of 50 plus years.
Generations of Swans players and coaches dating back to Norm Smith and Bob Skilton, crossed paths with Bob on match days in Melbourne.
He is a Life Member of the Swans and remembered fondly by all involved with the club.
Former Sydney Swans captain and current Head of Player Wellbeing and Development, Brett Kirk, described Bob as a big, gentle soul.
“Bob was a constant in the rooms at all Melbourne games and was always on hand to help in any way that he could,” Kirk said.
“Routine is a big part of travelling to games, so it was always good to see a familiar face when arriving at the MCG or Marvel Stadium. Bob was a familiar face for generations of Swans of players when playing in Melbourne."
Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley praised Bob for his loyalty and dedication to the Swans.
“It is people like Bob that make football clubs such unique and wonderful organisations to be part of,” Harley said.
“Bob dedicated more than 50 years to supporting to the Swans and did so with great passion.
“He was an enduring link between South Melbourne and the Sydney Swans and his big presence will be greatly missed at Melbourne matches."
The club sends its deepest sympathies to Bob’s wife Mary and all his family and friends.
