We’re looking forward to joining the world’s biggest celebration of LGBTIQ+ pride, with the Sydney Swans accepted to march for a fourth-consecutive year in the Mardi Gras Parade.
This year’s parade is being held at our home, the SCG, on Saturday, March 6. The SCG is close to the parade’s spiritual home along Oxford Street and will provide for a COVID-safe event by enabling physical distancing and contact tracing.
It’s the 43rd year of the annual Mardi Gras Parade, which this year will feature 5,000 participants from more than 100 LGBTQI+ community groups.
In past years, the Sydney Swans Mardi Gras entry has focused on the theme ‘Everyone is welcome’. While that message remains important, in line with the theme for this year’s parade – Rise – our message will be ‘Together we rise; together we stand’.
Sydney Swans Head of People and Culture Scott Dalby said it speaks to emerging from the challenges of 2020 stronger together.
“Through all of the challenges of the past year the Sydney Swans community stood together, even though we were physically apart. We rallied, supported, and held each other up through respect, courage and resilience,” Dalby said.
“Together our Swans community will rise stronger and more determined than ever to lead by example in listening and learning, to ensure everyone feels welcome.
“After becoming the first professional sporting club to have a float in the parade in 2018, we are very proud to once again be involved in this iconic event and look forward to a memorable evening at the SCG.”
