Lance Franklin and Kurt Tippett are set to play in Friday night’s blockbuster clash with Hawthorn after successfully completing training at the SCG on Wednesday evening.

Friday night’s match will be the first time the key forwards will line up together, with Tippett to play his first senior game since last year’s finals series.

Franklin, who has battled knee tendonitis for the last fortnight, trained well throughout the session and took part in the majority of match play drills, while Tippett moved freely and looked to have overcome his rib injury.

Speaking to SwansTV following this evening’s training session, coach John Longmire confirmed the pair would be fit to play this Friday night.

“They both trained really well, so we expect them to play at this stage,” he said.

“We were always going to see how things went at training as I said earlier in the week.

“We saw how the training session went and all the players who had questions marks trained quite well, so we expect them to be available.”

This week’s match will also be the first time the club’s four talls, Franklin, Tippett, Adam Goodes and Sam Reid, will play together, which Longmire said was an exciting prospect for his side.

“It’s good to have those blokes available on our team,” he said.

“They obviously haven’t played much footy together, and with the other players as well, but it’s good to have them available.”

But Longmire was wary of placing too much emphasis on the team’s front half, with defensive pressure and work rate still the coach’s focus heading into the match.

“It’s not just about what happens in the front half and whose playing there, it’s about our work rate all over the ground and that’s really the key to who wins,” he said.

“We’ve got to make sure we bring that work rate and that trademark footy that we know we can play on Friday night.”
