Swans coach John Longmire said Nick Malceski and Lewis Roberts-Thomson, both who were under an injury cloud after last week’s 37-point win over the Hawks, were fit to line up against the Crows at the SCG this weekend.
“There were a couple of question marks going into this week’s training (about) Lewis Roberts-Thomson and Nick Malceski, who both didn’t finish the game last week,” Longmire told sydneyswans.com.au.
“In good news, they’ve been able to get through the training week and more importantly the last training session, where they both trained really well, so they’ll both play.”
Longmire also confirmed that with Roberts-Thomson fit to play, the Swans’ ruck combination would remain the same ahead of the Adelaide match.
“(Both Seaby and Roberts-Thomson) have been going OK and have been competing really well in that part of the ground,” he said.
“Jesse White is probably a bit stiff because he was able to play a couple of games a few weeks ago and was quite good … but Lewie has been offering a real contest there and Seaby is an experienced ruckman.
“Going up against (Sam) Jacobs, who is one of the in-form ruckman of the competition, as well as McKernan and Tippett, there is a big challenge ahead of our boys in that area.”
Following on from last week’s dominant second half against Hawthorn, Longmire said he was impressed with the form of defender Nick Smith, who made his return to the team as a substitute after a fortnight out with a virus.
“(Nick Smith) is definitely in the 22,” he said.
“We were really pleased with the way he came back into the team last week, he played a half and was a really valuable contributor and he looked sharp, and is a very important part of our back six when he’s up and going.”
After five consecutive wins, Longmire said the Swans’ will need to be at their best to get over the Crows, who he rates as one of the toughest competitors this season.
“It’s been a good start but we’re only five games into the season and it’s really only just begun. There’s a long way to go and this week we play against a team that is the number one contested ball team in the competition,” he said.
“Adelaide have got (Rory) Sloane who is an extremely underrated player and we really respect the way he goes about it, as well as obviously (Scott) Thompson, (Patrick) Dangerfield who are a couple of good players who go through their midfield group.
“(Adelaide) are fierce at it in the way attack the ball. They’ve had a fantastic start themselves and have only lost the one game under Brenton Sanderson since the beginning of the pre-season.
“They’ve been in great form themselves for the entire season so far, so they are going to be tough to beat.”
