Sydney Swans senior coach John Longmire has paid credit to the Gold Coast Suns following his side’s 40-point loss in Round 6 at Metricon Stadium tonight.

Whilst the Swans created more opportunities inside 50, the home side came away with a dominant victory and Longmire put it down to being under a high level of pressure from the Suns.

“I thought their pressure and intensity was superb all night,” Longmire said.

“We actually had more inside 50s than them, but our execution with ball in hand versus theirs was two different levels. They scored at almost 50%, and that was on the back of some terrible turn overs but their efficiency compared to ours was two different levels.”

Despite being on the receiving end, Longmire said his side should have been prepared to absorb and apply their own pressure.

“Efficiency is a contributing factor but every team is going to apply that sort of pressure. Their pressure was outstanding but you need to absorb that, need to be able to move on with it and be able to give a bit back.”

“We didn’t apply that same sort of pressure to them when they had the ball and therefore they were able to execute a lot better.”

“You look at what we were doing early on in the year and it was off the back of hardness and competing,” Longmire added.

“Once you are hard and compete hard, your skills follow on from that."

Longmire said that the side will learn from the match and use the loss as a learning opportunity.

"Any game, you always take out of it what you need to; the good, bad or otherwise," Longmire said.

"Then you get on with the next week. We will do the same with what we usually do. There are always opportunities to get better and learn from."
