The Sydney Swans have today travelled to Queensland and will prepare to face the GWS Giants in the Sydney Derby on Sunday July 18 at Metricon Stadium, commencing at 6.10pm.

Out of caution to the unfolding COVID-19 situation in Victoria, the Club agreed on Wednesday evening to relocate from Melbourne to Brisbane at short notice.

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley said that despite the challenges, the team continues to show great resilience.

“While these are unique circumstances, they are not unfamiliar circumstances, and our playing group and staff are doing a wonderful job adapting to the challenges at hand.

“It is a very fluid situation we are dealing with and we remain in continual contact with the AFL to work through all the impacts on the Club,” he said.

Harley said that re-connection of players and staff with their families remained the absolute priority.

“Our players and staff have been on the road for more than three weeks now and we are very aware of how challenging the situation is for those at home in Sydney.

“We thank all our families for their support and they are constantly in our thoughts. We will continue to work tirelessly to find a solution to reconnect players, staff and their families as soon as possible.

“We also understand the impact the COVID-19 outbreaks will be having on members and fans and the thoughts of the Club are with all those affected by situations unfolding in NSW and Victoria. We encourage everyone to stay safe and follow the relevant health directives,” Harley said.

The Club continues to work with the AFL on the fixture implications beyond this Sunday’s Sydney Derby.
