Swans skipper Kieren jack has applauded Swans crafty forwards Lance Franklin and Adam Goodes for bringing a match-winning energy against North Melbourne on Saturday night.

Speaking on Channel Seven’s Game Day, Jack praised Franklin and Goodes’ workrate which contributed heavily to the 16-point win over the Kangaroos.

Franklin finished with a four-goal haul, but it was the full-forward’s “two-way running” and defensive pressure which were standouts in his overall performance according to Jack.

An athletic run and bounce in the third quarter was a notable play while a chase down and tackle – one of Franklin’s six for the night – on North speedster Robbie Nahas late in the game also caught the co-captain’s attention.

“His two-way ability to play the game has been impressive,” Jack said when asked about Franklin’s impact since arriving at Sydney.

“He obviously gets a lot of credit for the goals he kicks but you see that tackle he laid on Nahas late in the game, that’s the sort of stuff that we love and thrive on.

“His ability to come in, abide by our behaviours and culture and the fact he wants to be a part of it has been impressive.”

Meanwhile, Goodes withstood some jeers from the crowd to finish with three goals in a display indicative of the dual Brownlow Medallist’s vintage best.

Jack believes Goodes has really “stepped up” since returning to the senior side.

“His form has always been at a high standard, I think that has been on the back of playing some consistent footy,” Jack said.

“When he was in an out of the side and playing 20-30 minutes as a sub, it’s really hard as a footballer to get some continuity in your game.

“He put his hand up to go back to the reserves and I think it was one of the best decisions he has made because he was able to play 100 minutes of footy, come back in and his workrate is as good as its been for a number of years.”

Franklin and Goodes were judged among the Swans’ best at Etihad Stadium on Saturday night, alongside the likes of Jarrad McVeigh, Luke Parker and Dane Rampe.

On the subject of workrate, Jack’s performance was worth noting as well with the co-captain finishing with a game-high 11 tackles.
