AFL Academy member Hayden McLean will get a firsthand experience of what AFL football is like as he joins the Swans for a two-week apprenticeship.

The 197cm big man from the Sandringham Dragons will use the next fortnight to gain a greater understanding of the workings of an AFL club.

McLean has joined the senior team on the training track this week in the first week of pre-season training for the full playing list.

Members of the level two Academy squad (those players eligible for the 2017 draft) will train with a club in December for two weeks to gain an insight into AFL life before entering their draft year.

The level two group recently completed a training camp in Darwin under new head coach Luke Power and next month will head to America for a high performance camp in Florida and Los Angeles.
