Look beyond James Rose’s incredible final quarter blitz and two swing men emerged as Saturday’s game breakers.

Kurt Tippett and Sam Reid stood up in the absence of key forward Lance Franklin to help springboard the Swans towards a season-high score of 133.

Tippett was the most dangerous forward on the ground with five goals, including three in the opening term, despite also spending a large chunk of the game taking the ruck taps.

Tippett collected 20 hit outs (combining with Mike Pyke for 48) and pushed forward to finish the match with 5.3, 21 disposals, eight marks and five forward entries.

All the plaudits came for Tippett post-match with coach John Longmire declaring the Saturday’s effort as the 28-year-old’s best game for the red and white while defender Jeremy Laidler was also in awe.

“To see Tippo come at the ball and take ownership on the game is a credit to him,” Laidler said.

“Starting in the ruck gets his game going, just to put his authority on the game, and then he drifts forward.

“He’s been working really hard on the track trying to get on the park as much as possible and all it’s paying off.”

Reid was also a strong contributor in the Swans 89-point win, collecting 18 disposals and 10 marks which is his most complete performance since Round 4 against Fremantle (22 disposals and 11 marks) and third best numbers of his 95-game career.

And the 23-year-old stamped his contribution by kicking the Swans’ first of 13 second half goals.

“It was good to see,” Laidler said of Reid’s assured hands. “We’ve had a few different people go through the forward line and a bit was put on Reidy to take his clunks and fly for everything because we all know when he does he’s really dangerous.”

Franklin is in line to make a return for Sunday’s Round 22 clash with St Kilda at Etihad Stadium.
