The Sydney Swans got through last weekend’s round of matches with a clean bill of health and were able to get some crucial game time into a couple of key players.

Swans co-captain Adam Goodes played 65 minutes in his return from six matches on the sidelines with a quad injury, and despite pulling up a bit sore yesterday, all is on schedule for the dual Brownlow Medallist to back-up against GWS at ANZ Stadium on Saturday night.

“He’ll have a light start to training in the first half of the week, and step-up his training as the week goes on,” Swans physiotherapist Matt Cameron told sydneyswans.com.au about Goodes.

Swans youngster Tom Mitchell also got some valuable playing time under his belt when he took part in the second half of the reserves 148-point win over Sydney University on Friday evening.

It was Mitchell’s first game back from a knee complaint and Cameron said he expects the 19-year-old to further his playing time in this Saturday’s reserves match against UWS.

Luke Parker’s recovery from a broken collarbone is coming along with the young Swans midfielder increasing his training load over the last week.

“Luke joined in skills training today, but with no contact, and he will continue to train this week and a decision will be made at the end of next week (ahead of the Brisbane Lions match) on his availability to play,” Cameron said.

Unfortunately for first-year Swan Jordan Lockyer, he faces more time on the sidelines after suffering another setback, this time to his other hamstring.

“Jordan injured his other hamstring while building up his running from his initial hamstring injury,” Cameron said.

“It’s not a bad injury, but we’re taking a conservative approach and need to spend time assessing his recovery.”

In better news, Gary Rohan is recovering well from his broken leg and has started his long road back to football at the club this week.

“The surgeon is very happy with how Gary is progressing,” Cameron said.

“He had his first gym session earlier this week, and he was back on the (exercise) bike today, so his progression is going well.”
